Toward a “theatre” that connects to culture 100 years ahead

Support for the activities of “Noism Company Niigata”

“Noism Company Niigata”, Japan’s first resident dance company of a public theatre, was able to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024 thanks to your continued support. To create a “culture that endures beyond the next 100 years”, your ongoing long-term support and cooperation remain essential.

Purchasing tickets, attending performances and simply experiencing them with an open mind – these actions constitute clear and meaningful support. This is because the fundamental objective of this project is to cultivate a richer and more mature “theatre culture” rooted in this region.

Additionally, providing support from a long-term perspective – through goods, financial contributions, venues, opportunities or promotional cooperation – also serves as a significant foundation. This is not simply the provision of material support, rather, it reflects the willingness of supporters to embrace this project as something personally meaningful and to actively participate in it. A vibrant and creative city or region can only emerge when citizens with a deep cultural sensibility take initiative in nurturing culture themselves.

At the time of Noism’s founding, Niigata city made a decisive shift in its cultural policy. Instead of using its cultural budget to invite works created in metropolitan areas or overseas, the city chose to invest in attracting world-class talent to reside in Niigata, enabling a “dance company based in Niigata” to create and transit original works to the world. This marked a major transition – from borrowing culture from outside to cultivating it through accumulated experience.

“The theatre” serves as the cultural hub for this endeavor. “Noism” carries this public mission and aims to create culture that will endure 100 years into the future.

To achieve this vision, sustained understanding and support from a wide range of individuals and organization, across both private and public sectors, are indispensable.

We sincerely welcome support from all who share this philosophy.
