Noism Talk Session RYUTOKAI
RYUTOKAI is a talk session that invites a variety of guests each time. It is an intellectually stimulating gathering where audience and experts active in various fields such as art, society, daily life, politics, thought, culture, management, etc., think together about contemporary society from their respective professional perspectives.

-Important things to be passed on

“Niigata Tarukinuta (wooden barrel instrument)”, local performing arts in Niigata, has continued for about 300 years since the Edo period. Kozan Eijima is the representative of the Eijimaryu Niigata Tarukinuta Densyokai (Tradition Society), which was founded for the purpose of preserving and passing on Tarukinuta. In 2022, she succeeded the name of its founder, Kozan Eijima, and take over as Kozan Eijima II. She is committed to preserving the form and exploring the freedom of the art, and is working in Niigata to pass on and spread the art of Tarukinuta to the future. Kozan and Yamada first met in 2015, when Yamada directed and choreographed a collaboration between Noism2 and the Eijimaryu Niigata Tarukinuta Densyokai in “Scintillation – red ground and a refrain”. The fusion of tradition and modernity was a great challenge to each other at the time. “I want people living in Niigata to be proud of Niigata’s culture.” What and how to convey the culture in order to make it take root? What is the future of performing arts and culture in Niigata as seen by both of them, who are both active in Niigata?
